“ Wonderful spot! Ma Harper, 96, is still here! Fried pork chop, red beans and rice, cornbread, and peach cobbler were incredible. A must-visit for Creole lovers! ”
Bill Quinn“ We were searching for a taste of New Orleans as Fiesta as going on and we randomly stumbled into Ma Harper’s! We had the gumbo, shrimp & fried fish combo, and the bread pudding! So delicious! Wonderful attentive staff! ”
Sa Huynh“ We came to San Antonio for a Christmas getaway and Ma Harper’s was first on our list to eat!! Well we didn’t make it until Saturday but man o man was it worth the wait!! And Ma is so sweet and personable and she is a USAF veteran, it is a must to go for fresh creole food!! Fish, shrimp, gumbo and the red beans and rice. If you don’t go, you won’t know. Take care Ma and we will be back. ”
chris hudson“ Charming spot, the very vibrant 90 plus year old host and owner, is an amazing woman. She makes you feel at home. It felt like being invited home for dinner rather than being at a restaurant. The food was amazing. The flavors were well balanced and delicious. My daughter doesn't like restaurant cornbread, and she ate the entire thing. I recommend anything on the menu, but I loved the red beans n rice with the fried pork chop and washed it down with some swamp water. Food may take a while as it's mostly done to order, so just be patient it's not fast food. Enjoy your drink and cornbread while you wait or take in some of Ma's stories. It's definitely the place to try some southern comfort food. Can't wait to go back. ”
monsta minds entertainment“ Saw this place on the cooking show and stopped in while visiting my sister. Ma harper is an awesome lady and the food is awesome. She definitely lives up to the hype. We tried catfish (for the first time) and it was delicious. We had the gumbo which was also delicious. Red beans and rice delicious. Ma harper personality will have you running back for some granny love and attention with a good meal ”
Nazier Elahee, FD“ As a southern boy, with both parents from Louisiana this place makes me so happy!! I feel like I'm back home and my phone grandma's table, having the smells of fried okra and cornbread. Since I was sick today I was craving comfort food, aka gumbo. Found this place online and had to try it out. Walking in it reminded me of being in a small town in southern Louisiana, where everyone knows everyone and an old lady screaming in the background. The gumbo was good! I like my rue a little darker but this is the best I've had in SA! The staff was super friendly and the gumbo hit the stop. I'll be back for sure! ”
Jarrett Gillespie“ We had read about this place and finally stopped in, the gumbo was amazing, along with homemade corn bread and fried shrimp. Everything was great and a very friendly staff along with the service. Great experience. ”
Krista Klause“ Fantastic Creole Kitchen The gumbo was divine with Ma’s cornbread. The fried pork chop and red beans & rice and the fried shrimp po’ boy were straight out heaven. The atmosphere is inviting and meeting Ma Harper was a delight. Such a fun and lovely person. At 95 years young still stopping by each table and chatting and making sure you have what you need. What a blessing to this community she is. When in San Antonio this is a must visit place for food and conversation. ”
